CONTINUE LIVING AT HOME

WE WANT TO STAY HOME TO ENJOY HOME

Today we want to live on our own, even as we grow older and begin to need  need help with everyday tasks.  Forward-thinking Americans are designing and remodeling their living spaces now while they’re fully able, to prepare them to continue living independently at home. They’ll continue living in their own comfortable style, even when they are physically less able.

According to AARP, 83% of Americans age 45 and older said they plan to stay at home to enjoy the the last third of their lives.  This concept  is gaining popularity and is commonly referred to as "aging-in-place."

In the past, when an older person had difficulty living on their own, it was a signal that it was time to move in with family or go to a nursing home.  But for most Americans, this is no longer the case.

WE HAVE CHANGED BUT OUR HOUSES HAVEN'T

While functions of the home have dramatically changed, standard housing designs have not changed along with them.  The housing stock in the United States was not  built to accommodate the aging process.  Many American homes are over thirty years old and present challenges for even the most physically fit.  With all of our advancements, we are still adapting to our environments rather than making them adapt to us.

That’s where I come in.
